What I built

  • 01The public site: marketplace, commodity categories, market index and trends
  • 02Sign-up with country selection and OTP, login and profile editing
  • 03Product pages with specifications, certificates and FAQs
  • 04Requests for quote, expressions of interest, offers and trades, with user and admin views
  • 05Escrow setup, dispute management and transaction history

The system

Key decisions

  1. 01

    A module per trading step

Quotes, offers, trades, escrow and disputes are separate modules with their own data and views, mirroring how a deal actually moves.

  2. 02

    Locale in the URL

Every page lives under its locale, so links, search engines and right-to-left layouts all know the language without guessing.

  3. 03

    Shared views, separate permissions

Users and admins see the same trade records through different views, instead of two copies of the logic.

01

The problem

Commodity buyers and sellers needed a trusted place to find products, negotiate and complete trades across borders and across languages, including right-to-left Arabic.

02

The process

I built the public site (marketplace, commodities and market trends) and the signed-in app around one module per trading step. Locale-based routing and translations went in from the start, and verification documents upload straight to storage.

03

The outcome

Live at exportrades.com. Version 0.9 of the site and app shipped in February 2026; I was the largest contributor on a five-person team.

04

What I learned

Build translation in from day one. Adding a right-to-left language later would have meant touching every layout.
